Release Blitz & Book Review: Make Me by LP Lovell

Make Me
by LP Lovell
Series:
Kiss of Death #0.5
Genre: Dark Romance
Release Date: November 14th, 2016

Blurb:

0.5 in The Kiss of Death Series. Prequel novella to Kill Me.

At thirteen years old I was sold, doomed to become a sex slave.
Nicholai Ivanov, boss of the Russian Bratva, gave me the ultimate gift. He saved me from a fate worse than death. He promised to make me strong, because only the strong survive, and the weak die, forgotten and inconsequential.

I now live in a world of blood and violence, where humanity itself is a weakness. My life is not a battle of bad and good, but bad and worse. This is kill or be killed, survival of the fittest.

Make me or break me?

My Review:

Make Me is a nice addition to the Kiss of Death series especially when you’ve read Kill Me and want to know how Una became the Kiss of Death. This was a short and quick read but it didn't give a lot more details than what we got from Kill Me though I liked getting to know Alex who was mentioned in Kill Me.

The Story:
Una and her sister Ana live in an orphanage since their parents died. As if this wasn't bad enough they suffer in this house where kids without parents should be cared for. One day Una is taken away by a man of every child’s worst nightmare. Life seems cruel and Una can't trust anyone but there is still one she considers a friend. What will happen to Una? Will she survive the battles she's thrown into and what will happen to her sister?

Thoughts:
I can't say that I didn't like this book but I wouldn't know what to make of this story if I hadn't read Kill Me first. When I read Kill Me I wished to know more of how Una became the woman she was in this book. I think Make Me would have fitted better and made more sense as flashbacks in Kill Me rather than as a separate book. But that's just my opinion. The book’s still well written and like I said before it’s a nice addition to get to know Una's background.

I felt like a mouse spying in on Una and I didn’t understand why she did what she did in this book (especially at the end) even though I knew what was happening from Kill Me. It happened too fast for me as a reader to follow and understand her reasons for doing certain stuff. What was the trigger? I knew that it's about kill or get killed and having never been in such kind of situation I didn't know what I would have done but it seemed rather harsh and sudden to me.

-- I received an ARC of this book from Give Me Books Promotions in exchange for an honest review. --

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars
