About the author:

Leddy Harper had to use her imagination often as a child. She grew up the only girl in a house full of boys. At the age of fourteen, she decided to use that imagination and wrote her first book, and never stopped.
She often calls writing her therapy, using it as a way to deal with issues through the eyes of her characters.
She is now a mother of three girls, leaving her husband as the only man in a house full of females.

The decision to publish her first book was made as a way of showing her children to go after whatever it is they want to. Love what you do and do it well. Most importantly Leddy wanted to teach them what it means to overcome their fears.

My review:

To my utter shame, I have to admit that this was my first book by this author. BUT it will definitely not be my last!

I loved the writing because it had a fast pace with witty and fun scenes that really made me laugh. It was a rather sweet and easy story per se but a difficult one when it came to the reader’s feelings because the characters absolutely made me hot and cold.

The Story:

Janelle stood in front of Holden’s house, the guy she secretly loved back in the day and hasn’t seen or spoken to in the last five years, ready to confront him. Holden was her brother’s best friend and she couldn’t remember a time where he wasn’t in her life – except the last five years that she’d spent at college. But whatever happened all those years ago before she left to go to school was something she can’t make sense of. It was also the reason why she was determined to get answers from him. Vegas obviously wasn’t just the wedding night of her brother, it seemed it was a lot more personal to her even though she can’t remember.

She didn’t count on Holden’s expectations and before he gave her what she wanted, she had to make good on their agreement. So, living with him!? It can’t be that bad now, can it?!

Thoughts:

I still can’t decide if I liked the characters or not. Especially Holden confused me and made me angry at the same time. How it came to that? Well, he made me furious when he didn’t tell Janelle what happened since she couldn’t remember. But then he held her accountable for not remembering and not going through with their deal although SHE COULDN’T REMEMBER!! Argh!! It still makes me angry thinking back to that. Anyway, next thing was the reason he wanted her to live with him – because of her family. Wait! What?! Yeah, you see, he suddenly didn’t want her anymore although they had a deal – the one she couldn’t remember but he could – and were supposed to do whatever after she finished college (sorry I can’t get into much detail as to not give the story away). So, and to top it all off, he did whatever he wanted with whom he wanted because he didn’t see the point in waiting for her although that was the deal. So how come he was mad at her for not sticking to the deal (even though she couldn’t remember) when he (and he did remember!) just stuck to the things he found ok to stick with and did whatever he wanted anyway and blamed it on her. Sorry for my rambling but I got so frustrated at that point that I was this close to ripping my hair out!

However, the story hooked me from the start even though after the beginning there wasn’t so much happening in the story itself. But the interactions between Holden and Janelle were really captivating. While it often grated on my nerves, I still can’t deny that it was funny as hell to see them struggle through the most mundane things because they always tried to one-up each other.

The plot was easy enough and could have made the story go in all kinds of directions. In my opinion, the author did a fantastic job. There might be people who don’t like getting as frustrated as I got with Holden and maybe they won’t dig the story because of it. But even though it brought out the bitch in me I really enjoyed it so much! It has been so long since I despised the hero in a story and still liked it. *haha*

My conclusion would be that either you will love it or hate it. You just have to find that out for yourself. I definitely loved it despite everything and I can’t wait to read the next book from this author.
